Two weeks ago we announced the official launch of Pathly’s On-Demand Career Mentorship platform. From the start, I knew we wanted to go live with what Andrew Chen calls a Minimum Desirable Product, which he describes as follows:
A Minimum Desirable Product is the simplest experience necessary to prove out a high-value, satisfying product experience for users. To build an MDP, you will have to actually deliver the core of a product experience so that your customers can make a full assessment, rather than simply providing a landing page. Instead of measuring YOUR conversion rates and revenue generated, instead you might figure out the metrics of what benefits you are providing to the user.
Our goal was to make something our customers would find valuable even if it’s not the final version of the product (it’s not) and I’m excited to be able to say we have done that while being profitable from the beginning.
Today I want to share a quick breakdown of where the product is at now and announce that our second version is in the works and will offer a much better, more personalized experience than the current iteration does along with information on the mentors with whom you can schedule advising sessions.
We’ll share more details as that is built out. For now, here is Version 1.0:
We’re currently working on tweaking this quite a bit but we wanted to launch with something that set what we hope is a good tone for our brand and I think we did it with the current theme.
Pricing and Signup Page
We currently have two pricing options available, a one-off session with a mentor or a month-long package of four sessions. We did our best to price our product affordable while still allowing ourselves to be profitable.
The 1-month program has been the most popular option so far though I anticipate that will change as we start driving some serious traffic to our homepage. Both options are great and I encourage you to reach out if you have questions about which one might be right for you.
Customer Signup Process
Once you’ve picked a plan, you’ll get taken to a scheduling tool where you can pick a day, time and enter some basic information and payment. Currently we handle personalization manually ourselves by emailing you a few questions after you schedule your session, but in the future this will all be a seamless part of signup.
Where We’re At Now
Pathly is absolutely in its infancy but our customers are already achieving incredible results with the current platform.
My head has been wrapped up in backend tech stuff for @TryPathly and we’ve done almost no “marketing” of any kind yet.
Despite this, new customers are signing up daily, mostly word of mouth!

As we build out the second iteration we’ll be working closely with a group of our existing customers to understand better what they want out of Pathly so that we can continue to build the best career launch products in the world.
